U.S. Consul Patrick Smeller and Nara Prefectural Governor Shogo Arai pose with Nara mascot "Sento-Kun" during a reception and meeting organized by the Association for Commemorative Events of the 1300th Anniversary of Nara Heijo-kyo Capital. Nara will host several major events throughout 2010 to mark the 1300th anniversary of its establishment as Japan's first permanent capital.
